OUR SISTER CLUB

 THE MANNIN KENNEL CLUB

(The Isle of Man)

About 20 years ago, John Burn, one of our Patrons, was visiting the Isle of Man and met up with some doggie people – as one does – and went to a Show and a couple of social occasions. From that he started exchanging magazines, newsletters and videos. On a later visit he was presented with the Mannin Perpetual Trophy (see photo below) to bring back to our Club and presented the Mannin Kennel Club with a Trophy we had made of Jarrah and since that time both Clubs have presented the Trophy’s annually and the links of exchanging magazines etc has continued since our first Mannin Trophy Show in 1991.

The name Mannin is from the ancient name of the Isle of Man and is said to come from the Celtic Sea God, Mannanan, similar to the Roman Neptune and the Greek Poseidon. Even today Manx people know their island as Mannin, sometimes Vannin or Ellan Vannin, which is the title of their national song. Incidentally there is a great version of Ellan Vannin, arranged by Barry and Maurice Gibb and sung by the Bee Gees when they returned to their birthplace on the Isle of Man.
